Uniforms of the Revolution
A
quick review of the sketches of C.M. Lefferts Uniforms of the American Revolution, as well as
other sources will show the variety of uniforms worn by regular and irregular participants in the
Revolution. Regulations of many reenacting organizations define precisely the construction of the
uniform, while others encourage the lack of uniformity most certainly observed in some less well equipped
units. We will gladly work with you to put together your uniform, whether for the Continental Line,
Jaeger Company, Pennsylvania Militia, or Marines. Our prices below are based upon the basic uniform of
the Continental Line, regulations of 1779. Additionally, we have the ability to have specific colors &
weights of 100% wool milled for your unit's requirements. (Please contact us regarding minimum order
requirements for this).
Regimental
The coat is of wool, faced with wool, and lined with linen. Buttons are of pewter. This is an enlisted
man's coat - lace, brade and trims are extra. We will require the details of your unit's specific
requirements for a final price.
Waistcoat
The waistcoat is made from linen or wool, as appropriate. Unless otherwise specified, we will use pewter
buttons, closely spaced. For a more detailed description, see our weskits.
Prices can be adjusted if you do not desire working pockets, or if you want pockets with no flaps, flaps
only, special buttons, etc.
Overalls
Overalls are tightly fitted to the leg, typically with buttons at the ankle. For a proper fit, we will
send the overalls to you finished, except for the outside seam. After you pin the seam for the correct
fit, you will send the overalls back to us for completion. (Price reflects the additional shipping
costs.)
