Men's Coat, or Frock

T he coat of the 1750's through 1770's, as were other garments of the period, was heavily influenced by the styles popular in France. Men of both Europe and the Colonies wore either justacorps or frock. The 1750's coat had large cuffs, was very full in the skirt, and was intended for wear over the weskit. The 1770's version was less skirted and had a smaller collar. The 1770's coat is moderately pleated, with hook and eye closure at the chest, opening gracefully to show the weskit. Lapels can be added if desired.

Either coat is generally made from mid-weight wool. Heavier overcoat weights are for this coat (liken this to a modern sport coat). The coat is fully lined with fustian or linen, and uses pewter buttons. Our frock is a fine wearable coat, essential to the well dressed man's wardrobe, yet adaptable for the field.

All custom coats include a fit sample so we can achieve the proper for your garment.
