T
he bodice is a garment that is similar in wear and function to the men's waistcoat. Worn over the chemise and stays, the bodice was considered essential to the modest attire of the 18th Century
woman. Our bodice is made with a laced front, which is nice for allowing various weights or numbers of
garments to be worn under it, and to allow
the fabric of the stays to be fashionably exposed. A button front (with ties around the buttons used for
closure), or hook and eye closures are also available. Our bodice is normally made of wool and lined
with linen or fustian, a surprisingly comfortable fabric combination, even on warmer days. If you
desire, we can also make a bodice of linen. For those depicting the less affluent, rural folk, we can
use coarser weave, natural color linen, or fustian.
